Dark berry fruit, raspberry and dried black cherry. A wisp of beetroot, earthiness and white pepper near the finish. The flinty chalkiness belies the gravelly nature of the soils in Hillier. Well integrated, although youthful. Great underlying structure.
Reviews:
“Light ruby colour; high toned, raspberry nose with just a suggestion of oak; elegant, dry, supple on the palate with a lovely velvety mouth feel; very Volnay in style with good length and just a hint of volatility that gives the flavour a lift. Score: 90“

“a pale-red, silky-smooth, light-on-its-feet gem. There are herbal and spiced beetroot aromas on the nose with an elegant wash of tang-infused red berry fruit, roasted herbs and juicy cherry bathing the palate. It’s focused and persistent on the finish with good balance, wisps of oak, minerality and sense of purpose. **** 1/2 ”

"The 2010 Closson Chase Vineyard pinot is a sultry, smoky, oxidative style wine, with colour already shifting into the garnet/terra cotta red spectrum. The nose delivers an intriguing mix of smoky strawberry fruit, cherry pie, old wood spice, blueberry yoghurt, wet bark and earth and other leathery-woodsy notes. The palate offers genuine concentration and richness, even if herbal-earthy flavours dominate over fruit expression, while tannins are firm and grippy, still youthful. Acid is balanced, neither crisp nor soft, but there's a sense of late-harvest ripeness to these grapes. Freshness has been traded it seems for density, shifting the expression to somewhere between, say Santa Barbara style pinot and warm vintage Gevrey Chambertin. Very good length. Score: 90"

"This pours brilliant pale garnet red. The nose jumps with classic County crushed sour cherry fruit, cinnamon/nutmeg spice, smoke classic pinot foresty/earthy and a touch of acetone. It’s a mid-weight, intense, sour edged with a fairly rich texture. The nervy acidity and fine tannin provide great food friendly structure (rare duck breast). The flavour concentration is impressive indeed with all kinds of cherry amid the spice, and acetone. So nervy you should probably age it another two years. Score: 89"
