Citrus and a touch of tropical notes come together on the nose of this smooth, refreshing white with a distinct personality. Fruit is also up front on the mouth, along with a touch of spice and almonds, and acidity lifting the aromatics towards a fairly long, complex finish. Especially interesting with soft cheeses like brie or aged goat cheese.

Reviews:

"There's a real restrained use of oak here, soft butter and coffee toffee notes on the nose – very interesting, unique and inviting. The palate is full of buttered toffee laden popcorn with roasted coffee and a caramel linger; lovely finish that's dry, pleasant and ultimately drinkable. Rating: ****1/2 out of 5"

"... It has deep golden yellow colour. The nose is powerful and complex with oxidative tobacco, marzipan, sponge toffee and dried peach and banana-like fruit. It's great appeal is textural – this a rich, finely poised and complex chardonnay that doesn't waver through the extra long finish. Tasted June 2011. 90 points."

"Closson Chase chardonnays are unmistakeably buttery, smooth and burgundian inspired. Their estate grapes are from Prince Edward County but they lease lands in other Ontario regions such as for this Niagara River single vineyard wine. Flavours of apple butter, vanilla and butterscotch come forth in the mouth. Then spice and citrus notes uplift and refresh. A serious white, savour at the end of a meal with a selection of cheeses.”

"The finest winery based out of Prince Edward County (my opinion), the K.J. Watson Vineyard Chardonnay is actually sourced from the Niagara Peninsula, and is definitely, extremely well crafted. Starbright, light greenish-straw in colour, the wine is rather toasty, with intense, very attractive scents of ripe sweet apricots and butterscotch, switching to lemon, poached pears, and a lovely hint of orange peel, honeysuckle, and quince. Complex, with beautiful, fuller-styled fruit, balanced acidity, and a delicious, lingering hint of apricots, honeysuckle, and butterscotch on the finish. Excitingly robust, truly tempting wine. Now-2016. 90 points.
